First No Interest loan approved

Kerrie Williams (left), is handed a Northern Rivers No Interest Loan Scheme cheque to purchase her new fridge by Sheryl Graham of the Kyogle Family Support Service

Kerrie Williams of Ettrick, is the first recipient of a no-fee no-interest loan applied for through the Kyogle Family Support Service (KFSS) under the Northern Rivers No Interest Loan Scheme (NRNILS).
Kerrie, who is pictured receiving a cheque from Sheryl Graham of the KFSS, was the first applicant through the KFSS for a loan under NRNILS.  Kerry, who has three children ranging in ages from 9 to 18, was without a refrigerator for 3 months after her old one “died”, even going through the Christmas period without one. “It was a nightmare, serious!”, Kerrie said.
Kerrie told the NRTT she jumped at the chance to apply for a loan through the NRNILS, and is very happy to have had her loan approved within two weeks. “I made an appointment and came in for my interview which took about 45 minutes,” Kerrie said, “it was easy to pull together the information I needed, and it was good to do a budget actually.”
Sheryl Graham told the NRTT the NRNILS has the “potential to bring $100,000 a year to the local economy, if not more.”  Between 20 and 25 no-fee no-interest loans have already been approved in the Northern Rivers area, Sheryl said, including loans amounting to $5,000 for Kyogle applicants.
Kerrie, who got two quotes for the new refrigerator she wanted, she told the NRTT that local businesses were very cooperative and chose to purchase her refrigerator locally because they had the fridge she wanted.
