Roxy Gallery presents… Highly Strung
Highly Strung is an exhibition by local artists Tony Baron and Janet Wilson. As the title suggests this exhibition is a play on music, both musical instruments and musicians. Tony Baron has undertaken a series of works that reflect on the guitar and viola in both the painted and the sculpted form. Janet Wilson’s work it explores the textile nature of figurative musicians. Janet has constructed figures from found materials and weaving these materials into forms representing famous musicians. ‘Highly Strung’ will be on display from 16th February to 13th March 2010.
The official opening of this exhibition held on Friday 19th February was really well attended and the night was made very enjoyable with live music from Tony, accompanied by two other muso friends. Tony performed on his bass sculptured guitar which he made and is part of the exhibition display.
Janet Wilson’s work follows a path of exploring sound, or the absence of sound because she is deaf, through the use of recycled materials which reflect her interest in textiles and all things fibre. While Tony Baron comes to this exhibition as a professional musician who likes to play on the one of the sacredness of a sense of humour and the pervasiveness of music, it consumes a lot of our daily life. Music displays the blurred line between aural and visual art; it knows no boundaries.
