* An old washing machine with the inside removed makes a cheap and reliable compost bin.
* Prevent carsickness by placing cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil and placing near the air vents.
* Get rid of your dogs “doggy smell” by bathing in a mixture of water and bicarbonate soda.
* Baking soda on a damp sponge will quickly rub bug spots off your cars grill.
* Take the smarting out of a bee sting by rubbing with a poultice of baking soda and water.
* When your child gets chewing gum in her hair, rub a little peanut butter into it and it will remove the gum.
* To prevent dark colours fading quickly, add a couple of teaspoons of Epsom Salts to the rinse water.
* A few drops of lemon juice added to rice while cooking will keep it whiter.
* When cleaning out your fish tank, pour the old water onto your pot plants. This will add vitamins and nutrients that will give your plants a lift.
* To keep a vase of flowers clean, add a sprig of mint to the water. Flowers will last longer and no more smelly vases.
* Remove the ‘silk’ from sweet corn by rubbing downwards with a dampened paper towel.
* A raw piece of onion or a little ammonia rubbed onto bites will relieve the itching sensation.
